Yorkshire logistics business wins prestigious International Supply Chain award
Leeds-headquartered international logistics service provider Torque has won a prestigious industry award.
The company, which turned over £60m last year, took the Best International Supply Chain Initiative of the Year accolade in the annual Retail Week Supply Chain Awards.
The accolade was presented at an event held at the Hilton Hotel, in London’s Park Lane, hosted by comedian Hal Cruttenden.
Torque’s award was for its partnership with London-based business work wear retailer leader TM Lewin.
The relationship began in 2006 when Torque started working on the client’s online home shopping offering and has since expanded to cover its retail and web-based operations worldwide.
The partnership has coincided with rapid expansion by TM Lewin, which opened 51 stores during a recent two-year spell alone.
The retailer now has around 100 stores in the UK and an international business including franchises in Singapore, Malaysia, Nigeria, Ghana and the Czech Republic, plus a presence in Australia, among other countries.
Among the household names Torque beat to the accolade were Screwfix, who were highly commended, Hamleys and Tesco.
The awards judges included the supply chain directors of Asda, Sainsbury and WH Smith, plus other senior logistics professionals from organisations such as Marks & Spencer and Morrisons.
Torque’s head office site is in Wortley, Leeds, and includes 550,000 square feet of warehousing facilities, employs 350 people, while over 200 employees work at its premises in Bradford’s Cutler Heights Lane and Holme Lane.
Welcoming the award, Vanessa Hope, Torque Logistics, said it was a real feather in the organisation’s cap.
She said: “This coveted accolade symbolises the rapid progress we’re making, as more and more retailers become aware of the outstanding logistical expertise and unrivalled standards of client service we offer, reinforced by factors such as the industry-leading returns management IT system we have developed.
“The prize is effectively for all our employees involved full-time in the TM Lewin relationship. It reflects great credit on them and is an accolade they richly deserve.”
