Drive to find 100 apprentice places in South Yorkshire

A Sheffield company, W Academy & Education, is working with South Yorkshire businesses on a campaign to get 100 young people into apprenticeships before the turn of the year, boosting employment and the local economy.

The drive was prompted by concerns voiced by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) that many employers in the county are failing to capitalise on the benefits of recruiting apprentices.

A recent report by the REC revealed that over two thirds of Yorkshire businesses don’t offer apprenticeships, despite it being a highly potent approach to bolstering workforces and importing talent, according to W Academy.

Marc Wildes, managing director, said: “Apprenticeships are a vital way of improving the skills of many staff and creating a committed and talented workforce. The recruitment landscape has been a difficult one in recent years because of the sluggish economy, but taking an apprentice on is a great way to gain an extra pair of hands that can make a real difference.

“South Yorkshire businesses are not taking advantage of this opportunity and as there is a pool of talented young people here, eager to succeed, we are working in companies to find the right apprentice for each of them, so that the optimum contribution for the future can be made.”

W Academy & Education is a training provider in hairdressing, barbering, hospitality, customer service and business administration, IT, team leading and Contact Centre Operations.

It offers a comprehensive range of qualifications and promotes real life learning to hundreds of students.
