Chamber offers vision of Mersey future - in 3D
A 3D film depicting how Liverpool and Wirral could dramatically develop over the next quarter of a century is to be unveiled at the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce annual dinner.
The film has been commissioned by the chamber and shows how plans by Peel Group, which is the Official Partner for the dinner, could transform the city region.
The film shows how the company’s Wirral Waters and Liverpool Waters schemes – along with its plans for the International Trade Centre – will radically change the skylines on both sides of the river.
The black-tie dinner, which has been a fixture of the city’s social calendar for more than 100 years, is at the Anglican Cathedral on December 5 and is expected to be attended by more than 500 of the city’s leading business figures and key decision-makers.
This year’s event is to have a special focus on Liverpool’s maritime history and its future development. Peter Shanks, the former managing director of Cunard Cruise Line, will be the keynote speaker.
International law firm Hill Dickinson is the official drinks sponsor for the evening.
Max Steinberg, chief executive of Liverpool Vision and chairman of the International Festival for Business 2014, will also update guests on the festival’s plans.
Lindsey Ashworth, development director at Peel, said: “The maritime theme of the evening reflects the fact that city still owes much of its prosperity to its pre-eminent position as a port city in the 19th century and to the construction of its docklands.
“Those docklands have been transformed into hotels, apartments, restaurants and bars, breathing new life into our waterfront and creating the platform for Peel’s globally ambitious development plans which will see both sides of the Mersey transformed in coming years.
“Guests attending the dinner will be able see in 3D just how our plans might transform the city in the decades to come.”
Jenny Stewart, chief operating officer at the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, added: “This year’s event will be genuinely unique and different from anything we’ve held in the last 100-plus years.
“The event will celebrate the city’s glorious maritime past but, more importantly, also celebrate current success and, through the film, offer guests a fascinating glimpse into the future.”
