RPS open Maltby site

North East packaging recovery outfit, Returnable Packaging Services (RPS) Limited has opened a Teesside site at Maltby as it expands.

RPS, which was previously based in Ripon, held a launch day at its new Teesside premises, after a strong, award-winning year in business.

Chairman of the Entrepreneurs’ Forum, Nigel Mills, officially opened the site by sawing through a length of timber rather than cutting the traditional ribbon.

RPS managing directors Gary Hudson and Tim Hutchinson were delighted that Nigel Mills opened the site.

Nigel Mills said: “RPS is an inspiration for the region; the region needs iconic people like Gary and Tim from RPS to look up to. It’s fantastic to see what has been achieved here.”

National and international clients based in the region, including Huntsman Tioxide and Veolia, attended to enjoy a glass of champagne, canapés and tour the new site.

Thomas Hudson, marketing and communications manager at RPS, said: “It was a great honour for so many people to attend the event. Now in our eleventh year, we have grown from a small warehouse in Ripon with only three customers to a team of 17 with a turnover of £1.5M.”

Earlier this year, RPS won a Gold award at the Let’s Recycle Zero Waste Awards for its pioneering work in achieving zero waste to landfill.

Thomas added: “It’s going to be an exciting next 12 months at RPS. We plan to expand our operational team by employing an apprentice, further strengthen our brand and also install a biomass boiler to continue our commitment towards being a zero waste business.”
