Technology team's former Autodesk student receives expert status
An employee at Building Information Modelling (BIM) specialist BIM.Technologies has come full circle from student to expert after being invited to become an Autodesk Expert Elite member.
Peter James Morton, who began his career with _space group in 2004, has recently been awarded membership to Autodesk’s Expert Elite Program, which recognises individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the Autodesk community.
Individuals are selected after a detailed review of their Autodesk Community contributions. With five years of contribution to Autodesk education, Peter was nominated by Autodesk Education Program Manager for Europe, Bjoern Wittenberg, making him one of only forty six individuals worldwide nominated this year.
Peter is currently BIM Trainer/Instructor at BIM.Technologies, which was launched by _space group in 2011. In this role, he heads up BIM.Technologies and Northern Construction Training partnered CAMPUS – a purpose-built BIM training suite which runs free 12-week courses offering an intensive introduction to BIM.
He played a key part in setting up CAMPUS and creating the curriculum which he delivers to 19 to 24-year-olds who are not in education, employment or training (NEET). CAMPUS has recently achieved Autodesk Authorised Training Centre (ATC) and Authorised Certification Centre (ACC) status. Peter is also a former Autodesk Student Expert, Education Expert and current member of the Autodesk Developer Network (ADN).
Peter said: “It’s such a privilege to be made an Autodesk Expert Elite member as there are only 138 individuals in total across 20 countries on the programme. I’m very grateful to Bjoern for nominating me and to BIM.Technologies, which has allowed me to develop my skills and pass on this knowledge to new learners.
“Membership means that I will be seen by the industry as an expert and provides the work I do with huge credibility. It will also allow me access to better testing and new software which will prove a great benefit to future projects.”
BIM.Technologies chief executive Rob Charlton said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Peter and I couldn’t be happier for him. He has come a long way in a very short time with us and I’m certain he will use the new opportunities which come from membership to their best advantage, putting his learners at the forefront of this.”
