North East electrical training firm seeks apprentices

A North East electrical training company is set to increase the number of apprentices through its doors thanks to support from the SFA (Skills Funding Agency).

Allied Training Solutions is now offering fully-funded electrical apprenticeships to 16 to 24 year olds.

The company, based at South Tees Business Centre, carries out PAT testing courses, 17th Edition BS7671 electrical training courses, inspection and testing courses, all internationally-recognised EAL accredited electrical training courses.

Allied Training Solutions – supported by Redcar Enterprise Team - was started two years ago by lifelong electrician Phil Pallent and since then has helped hundreds of electricians to renew their licences and qualifications, and build on their personal skill sets.

Phil said: “This is an expansion of the business and we’re hoping it’s one that will lead to even bigger growth within the next two years.

“We deliver courses to around 240 electricians a year and we believe we can double, if not triple, that figure by delivering training to apprentices.

“We’re in discussion with several companies about training their apprentices on block release – where the trainees come in for two or three weeks at a time rather than day release.

“We provide training that enables tradespeople to work correctly, minimising the risk of injury and harm in domestic and commercial premises across the region, which means we are helping keep the people who live and work in those premises safe.”

Allied Training Solutions is fully accredited to deliver internationally-recognised EAL qualifications and to conduct examinations.

The company’s expansion is due to partnership funding from Robark from Nottingham.

The training courses provided by Allied Training Solutions are designed and run to meet the flexibility required by working electricians, meaning the training programmes can be varied or tailored to suit an individual’s needs.

The company belongs to a growing number of businesses in Redcar and Cleveland who are achieving their goals thanks to support from the Redcar Enterprise Team.

That support includes help to cut energy bills and identifying ways the companies can build on success and increase turnover.

The Enterprise Team business coaches provide free advice and support on a range of business topics including business planning, strategic direction, raising finance, tax, payroll and record-keeping, recruitment, staff development, acquiring a business, international trade, and protecting intellectual property.

The team also has a bank of business experts to call upon who provide a free bespoke advisory service on topics including marketing, accounts, recruitment and business funding.
