1,000-home plans submitted to Tees authority
Plans have been submitted to build a 1,000-home development on Teesside, with concerns raised by nearby residents.
An application has now been submitted to Redcar and Cleveland Council by West Midlands Metropolitan Authority Pension Fund.
The multi-million pound proposals also include a park and ride car park, a pub/restaurant, 60-bed hotel, petrol station and access on land to the south of Marske, bounded by Delamere Drive and Longbeck Road.
Extensive consultation has already taken place for the 122-acre site behind the village’s Sherwood Drive estate.
Councillor Helen McLuckie, the council’s cabinet member for highways, planning and transport, said: “This site has over the years been identified as a possible area for residential development with a number of developers expressing interest.
“It’s important we find sufficient housing land capable of meeting the identified housing needs of the borough, not only to support economic growth but also to help population retention.”
More than 100 people attended a consultation at Marske Leisure Centre and New Marske Sports Club last October.
Now the council has sent out a letter to residents asking for further views and comments on the outline stage of the proposal.
A West Midlands Metropolitan Authority Pension Fund spokesman said: “This area has been identified as a potential one for housing growth in the council’s regeneration masterplan.
“If approved, the proposals, subject to detailed planning applications and consultation, could help meet some of the council’s future housing need in the area as well as delivering significant local benefits including new public open space and parkland, affordable housing and improvements to both railway stations.”
The planning committee is due to consider the scheme in January or February.
