It’s Trick or Tea, at Matfen Hall this Hallowe’en

LITTLE monsters will be scaring their parents with spooky teatime treats at one of the North East’s leading hotels this month.

Matfen Hall Hotel, at Matfen, Northumberland, is hosting a Hallowe’en Afternoon Tea on 31 October, giving children the chance to create creepy cakes and scary smoothies to share with their families.

The event will take place in the underground cloisters, where pastry chef Alasdair Walklet will help the youngsters make a selection of ghoulish goodies such as ‘real’ finger buns, coffin cakes and pumpkin smoothies.

Meanwhile, parents can enjoy a more traditional Matfen Hall afternoon tea in an adjoining room at the heart of the 53-bedroom hotel.

“This is the perfect opportunity for the families to enjoy some Hallowe’en fun in a suitably spooky – but splendid – setting,” said Alasdair who was recently appointed head pastry chef at Matfen Hall’s two AA rosettes Library Restaurant.

“The children will have a great time making their cakes look as creepy as possible while the adults enjoy an all-together more civilised afternoon,” he added.

The Halloween Afternoon Tea is part of packed schedule of events being held at the hotel - one of the North’s leading leisure, conference and wedding venues – in the run up to Christmas.

It starts at 2.30pm and tickets, which must be booked in advance, cost £15.95 for adults and £8.95 for children.
