Barratt makes key appointment ahead of South Wales expansion plans
Leading housebuilder Barratt Developments, which includes the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, has reinforced its commitment to Wales with the appointment of Steve Williams as managing director to head up operations.
Steve, who joins from Persimmon Homes in Wales, is set to oversee a period of growth for the five star housebuilders with expansion on the cards for both Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes.
“South Wales is a vital market for us and we have ambitious plans for growth,’’ said Steve who has worked in housebuilding for more than 30 years. “We are currently building around 500 new homes a year and have plans to increase this by up to 15 per cent each year for the foreseeable future.’’
Plans are currently underway for work to start on nine new developments in the next 12 months which will create around 573 new homes.
In addition to providing much needed new homes, the expansion plans are also set to provide the local jobs market with a boost and the new homes planned for the next 12 months alone are set to underpin more than 1,100 jobs in South Wales.
The majority of the new jobs created are expected to be filled by local people with the construction projects set to benefit a wide range of local sub-contractors, supply chain and provide valuable apprenticeship opportunities.
“I’m delighted to have joined Barratt at a key time for the property market in South Wales and look forward to being part of a company which is dedicated to providing five star quality homes throughout the region,’’ said Steve.
