White weddings and zombie brides - all in a days work
While wedding photography and wedding videos may be the lifeblood of Chris Greenwood’s thriving business, Chocolate Chip Photography, the young filmmaker is spending his night time hours working on a project that will resurrect a cult horror movie.
Greenwood, (28) originally from Haslingden in Lancashire moved to Sunderland to study Media Production and has never looked back.
He learned his craft running the video department for car giants, Nissan and after five years, he decided to look for a new challenge. Together with his partner, Shazia, who was already a wedding photographer, they decided to set up a wedding photography company together based from home.
Now, their company, Chocolate Chip Photography has built up a glowing reputation for quality wedding photography and they have now decided the time is right for the company to offer wedding video services too.
“Our customers have been asking us for the past year why we don’t offer wedding video packages to go with our photography services so we decided it’s now time to give the customers what they want.”
The young filmmaker has an almost full diary of weekend weddings but it’s after finishing his day job that he unearths his buried passion and works on a labour of love; a cult comedy-horror zombie movie called “Zombie Women of Satan 2.”
“The first movie in the series was a massive world wide success,” he said.
“It was distributed worldwide in 2009 and made a huge splash at the Cannes Film Festival where it got a lot of recognition, largely due to the sight of a dozen Zombies on the beach promoting it.
“With this film I wanted to do something different. We’ve injected more comedy, created some unbelievable characters and hopefully it will be an even bigger success than the first film.”
In January 2012, Chris was approached to produce and direct the sequel, which stars Big Brother 7 winner, Pete Bennett and the brother of Mighty Boosh star Noel Fielding, Mike Fielding.
Despite having a well-known lead cast, hundreds of extras and a reputation to live up to, the movie is being produced on a shoestring budget of around £8000.
Filming has taken place in Stannington near Morpeth, Newcastle, Chester le Street and Sunderland with realistic pyrotechnics, gunfights, luxury cars and of course female Zombies.
His co-producer, actor Warren Speed from Newcastle, joins Chris in the creation of the movie.
Excitement for the movie is growing and already its popularity has out striped the original. It currently has over 15,000 Facebook fans and interest has been shown once again by the Cannes Film Festival organisers. It was also recently listed by movie goers as number 30 on the list of most anticipated zombie films due for release around the world…and they’ve not even finished filming yet.
“It’s fantastic being able to use my working skills to create this piece of cult horror and everywhere I go people ask me how the movie is developing. I’ve even heard that groups of people in the USA are having themed Halloween parties based on some of the characters in the first movie. We plan to head to Cannes again next May and storm the beach with an even bigger zombie women invasion.”
Potential brides looking for videography from Chris need not worry however, his wedding videos are all done without blood, ripped clothes and decomposing bodies – unless the customer wants that of course.
