Tees firm invests £500k in CNC machine
A Teesside engineering firm has splashed out £500,000 on a new machine, thanks to help from the Regional Growth Fund.
Family-owned Dormor Machine and Engineering, which has been operating in Tees Valley for more than 30 years, has made the significant investment with a £70,000 grant from the RGF’s Let’s Grow Programme.

The new CNC machine will increase productivity and enable the precision engineering company to take on new staff at its 1,200 square metre workshop on Dormor Way in South Bank, Middlesbrough.
Managing director Clive Wood, who worked with Doromor’s works director Paul Moore to secure the funding, said: “The CNC machine greatly improves our efficiency in boring and milling the diverse and intricate components we manufacture for our customers.
“These parts help make up an array of high-tech machinery across Tees Valley for the oil and gas industry, sectors which are growing.
“This investment will ensure that we meet deadlines, deliver to the highest possible standard and look to take on new contracts in the future.”
Dormor, who this year were awarded their 14th Annual Presidents Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, will take on additional machine operators and increase their apprenticeship intake.
The firm’s application to Let’s Grow was supported by Local Enterprise Partnership, Tees Valley Unlimited (TVU) and Evolution Business and Tax Advisors LLP.
Evolution director Ian Whitfield said: “This grant is the catalyst that will greatly assist Dormor.
“The purchase of the updated machinery was an essential step, but the initial outlay had to be considered against other financial demands and ensuring customer orders are met.
“Being able to buy now rather than delay the purchase, while further reserves were built up, removes the fear of losing business and gives Dormor the confidence to increase their order list for years to come.”
