Former Deloitte man heads up Newcastle accountancy expansion
Established Newcastle-based chartered accountancy and business advisory practice, Leathers LLP, is expanding with the launch of a sister practice specialising in restructuring and insolvency.
The new independent firm, Leather Matthews LLP, will be headed up by former Deloitte director Neil Matthews, a restructuring specialist who has overseen some of the region’s biggest restructuring projects and worked across the UK.
Leather Matthews will complement the work of Leathers LLP by offering a range of services to both companies and directors who are in financial difficulty, assisting with turnaround management and restructuring advice through to overseeing liquidations and receiverships. Leather Matthews will have full access to the existing resources at Leathers LLP.
Neil Matthews says; “If directors of a company consider that their business is in financial difficulty it is important to take professional advice at an early stage from a reputable party. Leather Matthews can provide that advice, and the earlier we are consulted, the better the chance of safeguarding the business.”
With a career spanning over 27 years, Neil Matthews has specialised in all aspects of corporate recovery, business reviews, administrations, receiverships, liquidations and bankruptcies, since 1986. He headed up the Newcastle restructuring teams at Ernst & Young from 2002-05 and at Deloitte from 2005 – 2013 where he led a team of six.
Neil oversaw the team that worked on the high profile liquidation of Jarvis Construction (UK), which went into Administration in 2010 while at Deloitte.
Working alongside Neil is Michael Leather, who previously worked in the tax department at Price Waterhouse before leaving and establishing Leathers LLP in 1993 where he is senior partner. Leathers LLP has been involved in a number of tax restructuring schemes, floatations and acts for some well-known North East businesses, PLC’s and high net worth individuals, while also serving clients across the UK and internationally from its base in the Cale Cross building, Newcastle. The move to launch Leather Matthews LLP will further strengthen the Leathers LLP offering to both existing and new clients.
Michael Leather said; “At Leathers our clients are not only attracted to our range of services, but also our ability to understand and anticipate client needs and deliver a quality service, structured to individual requirements.
“I’ve known Neil for a long time and he has assisted me with a number of clients during that time. I’m certain that this ethos will be extended into the launch of Leather Matthews.”
Neil Matthews added; “Leathers LLP has built an excellent reputation in the industry for providing an unparalleled level of service and I’m delighted to be working with Michael and the Leathers team to launch Leather Matthews.”
