Firm to offer horticultural apprenticeships

One of the largest regeneration and housing companies in the region is offering six young people the chance to take on a horticultural apprenticeship.

The Apprenticeship programme has been established by Coast and Country Housing, a not-for-profit local housing company based in Redcar, to offer aged between 16 and 18 the opportunity to learn skills in a trade area directly on the job.

The horticultural apprentices will work with the estate operations teams to contribute to the services which Coast and Country delivers to customers.

They will assist in all aspects of estate maintenance work, including grounds maintenance, void clearance and litter and graffiti removal.

Coast and Country chief executive Iain Sim said: “These are fantastic opportunities offering the chance to work with professional, experienced and skilled people who deliver excellent services to our customers on a day to day basis.

“They will experience the ‘world of work’ and become involved in wider corporate initiatives aimed at developing Coast & Country and its services further.

“The Apprenticeship event will enable interested individuals to receive assistance in completing and processing the application forms and meet with members of the Horticulture team, with whom they would be working.”

The positions offered will take up to three years to complete and during training the apprentices will be retained by Coast and Country.

Young people, aged between 16 and 18 years, can attend a recruitment and information event on Friday November 22, between 2pm and 6pm at the marquee, Westfield Farm, The Green, Dormanstown, Redcar TS10 5NA.

The event will include stalls and workshop sessions, while Redcar MP Ian Swales will also deliver a short speech.
