Tees energy firm appoints new CEO

A major Teesside energy firm has appointed a new CEO.

TAG Energy Solutions has welcomed experienced marine and offshore construction specialist, Stuart Oakley, to the Billingham-based business.

Oakley joins from an emerging offshore accommodations group in the Netherlands and brings considerable senior executive and management experience from his career in the subsea and deep-water field development sectors.

TAG chairman Michael Foster said: “Stuart’s reputation in the offshore industry is second to none and he is a worthy successor to Alex Dawson.

“Stuart will play a significant role in helping to grow this business in the future and his expertise in the subsea technology sector will prove invaluable in helping the business achieve its objectives.”

After managing offshore vessels in the North Sea and Canada, Oakley spent 14 years with Subsea 7 in a number of roles working in locations around the world including the North Sea, US Gulf of Mexico, Brazil, India and Asia Pacific region.

In 1990 he joined the Stolt-Nielsen Seaway Group, now part of Subsea 7, holding positions as managing director of Seaway (UK) Ltd, director of the Hyperbaric Centre in Aberdeen and chairman of Seaway Heavy Lifting BV in the Netherlands.

He was subsequently appointed managing director of McDermott Subsea Constructors Ltd before joining Smedvig’s FPSO operations in Aberdeen, while he has also held senior executive positions with a number of technology start-up companies using venture capital funding.

Oakley said: “TAG Energy Solutions has quickly established itself as an effective operator in the offshore renewables supply chain and I am keen to build on the successes it has achieved.

“The sector is still evolving, but we are at the forefront of turbine foundation development, which supports the business’ growth objectives in the UK and European offshore markets.”

TAG has become one of the leading UK manufacturers of offshore wind turbine foundations and transition pieces following a £30m investment in its riverside facilities on Teesside.

The firm is currently in the process of delivering 16 monopiles and transition pieces for the Humber Gateway wind farm, which is the first contract of its kind to be awarded to a UK company.
