Albert Dock welcomes The Smugglers Cove in a £1million investment

Albert Dock has agreed a deal with leading restaurant operator, Living Ventures, to convert a 5,000 sq/ft unit into an exciting new restaurant and bar, The Smugglers Cove.

Living Ventures has spent £1million on refurbishing the unit, which will become the company’s fourth venue under The New World Trading Company (NWTC) format.

Located in the heart of Albert Dock on Britannia Pavilion, a 19th century Grade 1 Listed former warehouse building, the new venue will only add to the Dock’s already diverse restaurant scene.

Employing a staff of 60 people, The Smugglers Cove will offer a soon to be world-famous rum list, cocktails, craft beers and ales, Champagne and wine. The food menu is inspired by the deli, rotisserie and BBQ, with live music being performed by local musicians on a daily basis.

Opening November 11, The Smugglers Cove follows the enormous success of Living Venture’s other NWTC restaurants; The Oast House in Manchester and The Botanist, in Leeds and Alderley Edge. NWTC has a forecast turnover of £9.5million for this financial year with an expansion planned for London in 2014.

The new venue joins Living Ventures’ highly successful Gusto restaurant and bar at the Dock.

Tim Bacon, CEO of Living Ventures, said: “This is an exciting time for NWTC. Our current offering has proved to be a success in a tough economic climate and we feel Liverpool is the obvious choice for the next evolution of NWTC. Liverpool is a vibrant and exciting city and I believe The Smugglers Cove will be a great addition to what is already on offer at Albert Dock.”

Graham Cook, director of Albert Dock Company, said: “We are very pleased to welcome NWTC’s latest venue to Albert Dock. Its arrival will only further enhance the already fantastic selection of bars and restaurants we have on offer here. In its 25th year of regeneration, it seems very right that a new operation should open at the Dock. While we should celebrate the past, it’s always important to look to the future and bring exciting new venues for visitors to enjoy.

“It is also encouraging to see Living Ventures have the confidence to open its second venture in Albert Dock Liverpool. As a place to set up business, Albert Dock continues to attract some of the biggest names in the hospitality trade, which is great news for both the estate as well as our visitors.”

The Smugglers Cove will offer the first class friendly service that Living Ventures restaurants are renowned for, recently coming seventh in The Sunday Times Top 100 Companies to work for.
