Sheffield apprenticeship provider urges South Yorkshire business to take on new recruits

Leading apprenticeship provider W Academy and Education has warned that many businesses in South Yorkshire are failing to capitalise on the benefits of recruiting apprentices and is calling for organisations to support its latest drive to get 100 young people into employment before the turn of the year.

A recent report from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) revealed over two thirds of businesses in the UK are failing to offer apprenticeships in their firms, and the academy believes that more businesses in South Yorkshire should be considering the apprenticeships approach in order to bolster their workforces.

The leading South Yorkshire apprenticeship provider is now launching its ‘New Year, New Job’ campaign to urge local employers to consider adding an apprentice to their Christmas Wish List in order to provide 100 opportunities to young people in the region before New Year’s Eve.

Marc Wildes, managing director at W Academy and Education, said: “Apprenticeships are a vital way of improving the skills of staff and creating a committed and talented workforce. The recruitment landscape has been a difficult place in recent years due to the economic situation in the UK but taking on an apprentice is a great way to gain an extra pair of hands that could make a real difference.

“We feel that businesses in South Yorkshire are not taking advantage of this opportunity and as we currently have a pool of talented young people who are eager to succeed we want to remind them of the growing importance of apprenticeships and work with them to find the right apprentice that can make a valuable contribution for the future.”

As part of its work in the region, W Academy and Education is now appealing for businesses in the Sheffield area to join it as part of a new pledge to get 100 young people employed as apprentices before New Year’s Eve.

Marc said: “We want employers to pledge a vacancy to get another 100 16 – 23 year olds in to work by the New Year. We currently have 86 young people actively working with us to find them jobs but we need more vacancies to match them against.”

“There are clear benefits for apprentices, employers and the wider employment landscape when the tailored training and work place experience method is put to good effect. We are always looking for young people interested in apprenticeships and to best help them we need the right businesses to match them with.”
