Further sessions for County Durham Plan consultation

More information sessions have been scheduled to ensure businesses can give their final views on the plan that will shape the future of County Durham.

Following extensive consultations with residents, businesses and other interested groups and organisations, the latest version of the County Durham Plan has been produced.

It sets out a vision for the county up to 2030, including proposals to create jobs, housing, shops, and road improvements.

The plan aims to support a thriving economy, vibrant towns, and more visitor attractions in County Durham whilst protecting and enhancing its heritage and character.

Prior to its submission to Government, which will hold a public examination in summer 2014, the final consultation has already seen 16 public events take place across the county with another 13 to come.

However, to ensure as many residents and businesses as possible can share their views, Durham County Council has added even more events to those first publicised.

Cllr Neil Foster, Cabinet member for economic regeneration, said: “The County Durham Plan will shape the future of the county for the next 20 years, helping to develop a thriving economy, promoting business and providing homes whilst protecting the key aspects of this historic and beautiful county.

“The consultations carried out throughout the process have given the council vital feedback that has helped shaped the final draft of the plan.”

Council officers will be available at these sessions to discuss the plan and advise people on how to respond.

Summaries of the plan and DVDs containing all of the plan documents will also be available to take away.

The plan, supporting documents, and information about how to respond is also available at all council Customer Access Points, libraries and on the council’s website at the above address.

As well as the public consultation events, a range of meetings with business groups, Area Action Partnerships, town and parish councils and other stakeholder groups are also taking place.

The additional events will take place as follows:

• Thursday November 14 (4-8pm): Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre
• Friday November 22 (3.30-5pm): Wheatley Hill Community Centre
• Friday November 22 (5-6pm): Trimdon Community Centre
• Friday November 22 (6.30-8pm): Wingate Community Centre
• Monday November 25 (4-8pm): Seaton Holme, Easington Village
• Wednesday November 27 (4-8pm): Belmont Community Centre
• Friday November 29 (4-7pm): Fence Houses Community Centre
