Barnsley laser firm aids Mulberry at London Fashion Week

Barnsley based laser cutting and engraving company Cutting Technologies has collaborated with on a high profile event, London Fashion Week.

The laser specialist was hired by bespoke metalwork company Terrence John Blacksmithing to help complete an elaborate entrance gate for iconic British fashion label Mulberry at London Fashion Week.

Mulberry showcased its Spring/Summer 2014 collection at the luxury Claridge’s Hotel in Mayfair which was decked out like an English garden. Guests included US Vogue Editor Anna Wintour and TV presenter and fashion icon Alexa Chung.

Jane Robinson, Director at Cutting Technologies (who is up for a category in the Women in Business Awards on Friday 15th) said: “It’s always rewarding to see the final results of the work we do with our machinery and technology. The gates for Mulberry are a fantastic example of how modern technology like laser cutting can combine with traditional crafts such as blacksmithing to create something truly outstanding.

“Our portfolio of work ranges massively - from beer pump clips to large scale wall engravings - but each project is unique and exciting and this was no exception. It’s not every day that our work is seen by the great and the good in the British fashion industry!”

Terrence Harwood, who owns the Sussex-based blacksmith company, added: “This elaborate conception is a stunning example of a rare craft that is rich in both heritage and tradition.

“The English county garden gate not only references the label’s exclusive new season print but marries Mulberry, Terrance John Blacksmithing and Cutting Technologies’ passion for quality craftsmanship.”

This isn’t the first time Cutting Technologies has been asked to contribute to the fashion industry. Earlier this year, the company’s laser-cut latex graced the catwalks at Paris Couture Fashion Week in Charlie Le Mindu’s Gold Sabah collection.

Cutting Technologies used specialist skills in laser cutting to produce delicately patterned latex to make lingerie by Atsuko Kudo, a pioneering latex fashion designer who has dressed celebrities such as Lady Gaga and developed a pop up shop in London’s Selfridges.
