Powertecnique goes the extra 1440 miles to support critical MRI scanning equipment
When two leading Universities in Belgium and Dusseldorf experienced power outages appertaining to their critical MRI scanning equipment, the equipment’s manufacturer MR Solutions called in UK-based Powertecnique, to supply UPS (uninterruptible power supplies). Despite the distance, the Powertecnique team solved the problem within 72 hours.
MR Solutions is a world-leading developer and manufacturer of MRI spectrometer consoles and bench-top preclinical cryogen-free MRI systems, designed to customers’ specifications. It is very important that equipment such as MRI scanners never lose power as disruption could severely interrupt research.
Powertecnique worked closely with MR Solutions’ team to design a critical power solution to back up a cryo-compressor that supports magnets which need to be kept cool. The magnets are made from superconductive material and they only work when they are kept very cool. If they rise above a certain temperature, they cease to work so it is critical that they are kept at optimum temperatures.
Gordon Cockill, Technical Director at MR Solutions explains: “Both university sites experienced power outages on the equipment that we installed and we recommended that they urgently installed a UPS unit.
“As the universities were keen to protect their installations, we researched a couple of potential suppliers and quickly found that Powertecnique was able to meet our very short time scales while remaining competitive on price.”
From taking the order, it took the Powertecnique team only 72 hours to deliver, install and commission the units to each university hospital, starting from its headquarters in Fareham.
Managing Director at Powertecnique, Darren Pearce comments: “The projects took a lot of organising, especially in such a short space of time, but everything went seamlessly. We are organising training with the engineers on site to do first line technical support, but we are always on hand to help should they need us.”
Cockill continues, “We are very impressed with. We’ll certainly put more work through them as what they achieve is so critical to what we offer.”
