Wirral firm targets growth in ferry and super yacht sectors
Birkenhead-based manufacturer and outfitter MPE Interiors is launching a new package of services for the commercial ferry and super yacht sectors.
The Merseyside company is targeting the super yacht sector as part of its plans to broaden the range of manufacturing, design and fit-out services it provides while cementing its burgeoning reputation for quality delivery in the commercial ferry sector.
MPE Interiors director Cliff Grainger said the company sees huge potential in the industry for its range of exclusive and bespoke design services.
The company’s services include the design, manufacture and supply of furniture, soft furnishings, approved panel systems and doors as well as painting and decorating including special wall applications.
Mr Grainger said: “MPE Interiors is already very well known for the range of fit out services we provide and we are now forging a strong reputation in the commercial ferry sector through our projects with Stena.
“These projects are very different to super yachts but showcase the broad range of experience we have and we are keen to hear from other ferry operators. MPE works on both afloat and on land projects and take pride in the fast turnaround of our projects.”
MPE Interiors, which also works with Birkenhead-based engineering company Cammell Laird, has recently completed several projects for Stena including on its ‘Mersey’ and ‘Lagan’ vessels.
MPE’s work on the 980-passenger Stena ferries saw it redevelop the crew and officers’ mess on both vessels which operate the Birkenhead to Belfast route.
According to Mr Grainger, MPE is seeking to expand the range of services it provides by targeting growth in the yacht and super yacht sector.
He said: “We see massive growth potential in the super yacht sector, particularly in mainland Europe. We are investing in our capabilities and have bought new CNC machinery for precision cutting. In conjunction with CGI Motion, we offer 3D visualisation of compartments where customers require this facility.
“Each yacht project is like a bespoke thumb print and offers MPE the chance to showcase the wide range of skills we can bring to a fit out project.”
MPE has turnover in excess of £2m and more than 30 staff at its manufacturing base in Old Bidston Road. It was established by former Cammell Laird managers John Whetnall and Cliff Grainger in 2001.
