Creative rhyme helps Warwickshire accountants raise money for charity

A creative rhyme has helped Warwickshire’s leading accountants and business advisors to raise much more than a dime for charity.

Harrison Beale & Owen, which has offices in Leamington and Coventry, have commissioned a bespoke poem, which includes a number of personal anecdotes to describe the business and financial advisors.

It was created by Warwickshire entertainer Judge The Poet, who performs unique and on-the-spot poetry at events across the UK and worldwide.

The quirky rhyme was donated as an auction prize for the firm’s charity dinner and dance, which was held in support of the Shakespeare Hospice, a Stratford-upon-Avon charity supporting families affected by life-limiting illness.

The poem attracted a combined bid of £1,000 from HB&O directors Rob Kendall and Phil Ewing which has been donated to the Shakespeare Hospice.

Sarah Wilson, associate director at HB&O, organised the event as part of the charity’s Nifty Fifty Challenge, which encourages supporters to raise as much money as possible from an initial £50.

She said: “The charity dinner and dance was a great success and we are extremely pleased to have been able to raise money for the Shakespeare Hospice.

“It was amusing for us to read all of the personal tributes Judge included in the rhyme and we all had a go at guessing who they represented.

“The poem is definitely a conversation starter and we feel it really helps to sum up the personal services we offer to all of our clients.”

Judge, who has more than 24 years’ experience as a poet, said he was thrilled to have helped to raise money for the charity.

“I really wanted to capture the spirit of HB&O and worked closely with the team to find out all of their little quirks, which could then be put into verse in an entertaining and informative way.

“When I perform at a charity gig I sometimes offer bespoke poems to be auctioned for a good cause and HB&O were really keen to get involved.

“The Shakespeare Hospice is a fantastic charity and I’m extremely pleased that the poem helped to secure an additional donation for the charity.”

Ali Gray, events manager at the Shakespeare Hospice, added: “The poem is a really fun and creative auction prize and definitely one of the most original I have come across.

“We are extremely grateful to HB&O who managed to raise around £3,000 for the charity. This important donation will now help us to continue to support families affected by life-limiting illnesses across South Warwickshire and the North Cotswolds.”
