Durham quarry is the scene for Mercedes truck launch
A Durham quarry was transformed into an atmospheric arena as a new force in construction transport was unleashed to North East businesses.
Sherburn Quarry was the scene for the launch of the new, heavy duty Arocs truck from Mercedes- Benz at an event hosted by North East dealership, Bell Truck and Van.
The new Arocs offers a wide range of vehicles to suit customer needs including all-wheel drive tippers, concrete mixers, tractor units and rigid chassis units. From a green perspective, the vehicles engines have been designed to meet the coming Euro VI emissions standard that comes into force in January 2014. The Arocs demonstrates Power, Robustness and efficiency transmitted via the all-new 6 cylinder engines and Powershift 3 transmissions.
The Arocs is custom built to meet the rigorous challenges of the construction industry. With a fully galvanized cab and flexible high strength frame, the vehicle is designed to excel under the toughest conditions, which is why Sherburn Quarry was chosen for the launch.
Customers of Bell Truck and Van who got the chance to test-drive the vehicle within the rugged confines of the quarry included Thompsons of Prudhoe, James Burrell, JT Dove, JBT Waste, Greenways, Esh Group, Dunhouse Quarry, Sherburn Stone Co., MGL Demolition and Northumbrian Roads.
Transport manager of Prudhoe based highway surfacing and maintenance contractors, Northumbrian Roads; Stephen Atkinson was the first person in the North East to order the new truck.
“I’ve chosen the Arocs as it does the job I need it for. I originally saw it in Germany and I was very impressed. It’s coming next month and it’ll be a great Christmas present for the company.”
Bell Truck and Van sales executive, Steve Holmes, sold the truck to Northumbrian Roads.
“I’ve been with the company 12 years now and this is by far the most impressive truck of its kind that I’ve seen. It’s fuel efficient, environmentally friendly and has a large payload. It’s a different class.”
The Arocs combines low emissions with the highest possible fuel efficiency, long service intervals and a low chassis weight to provide maximum payload.
Steve’s sales manager, Dave Maughan is delighted with the new addition to the product line up.
“We are delighted that our first Arocs sale is going to Northumbrian Roads where it will be seen on the highways of the North East doing the job it was built for.”
“With signs that construction/ building sectors are starting to move forward, this new product launch could not have come at a better time,’ he said.
Bell Truck and Van can be found at Longbenton, Team Valley, Spennymoor, Billingham, Stockton and Wetherby.
