Construction of new day care centre nears completion
Construction firm, Howard Russell, is transforming the former Ambassador Hotel in Whitley Bay into a new day care centre for people with learning disabilities.
The construction firm, who are working on behalf of New Prospects, say the project is now nearing completion and will be ready for hand over next month. Howard Russell were appointed as main contractor on the £950,000 project after winning a competitive tender to carry out a comprehensive refurbishment and reconfiguration of the three storey former hotel. BW Architecture were appointed architects on the scheme.
Once complete the property will comprise a specialist day care centre, training facilities and offices, providing much needed support services to young people and adults with learning disabilities in the North Tyneside area.
Ian Goss, commercial director of Howard Russell commented: “We are proud to be working for such a fantastic charitable cause. New Prospects offer a wide range of support services to the local community and the new facility will enable them to further enhance these services. This has been a particularly rewarding project for the 25-strong team we have had working on site and it is great to see it nearing completion.”
New Prospects is a ‘not for profit’ organisation that has been established in the North East since 1990. They offer well established support networks enabling people with learning disabilities to live the life they want.
They are currently based over three sites in North Shields and Monkseaton this move will bring all their services under one roof and will serve as a resource for everyone locally and not just the people they support.
Lesley Lillie, finance/admin manager of New Prospects commented: “This is a very exciting time for New Prospects and we are looking forward to having this amazing new facility that will not only be a great base for our workers and offices but it will also allow us to become much more a part of the community.
“We are particularly grateful to the team at Howard Russell for delivering the project in a highly professional and timely manner.”
