Npower to cut 1,400 North East jobs
Energy firm Npower is set to axe 1,400 jobs and close two North East offices, it has been reported.
Npower’s call centres in Thornaby, Stockton, and Peterlee, County Durham, are expected to close as part of restructuring, while other operations are set to be out-sourced.
The company, which employs about 4,000 people altogether in the region, are expected to confirm details on Thursday.
Npower’s largest UK offices at Houghton le Spring, Wearside, are not thought to be affected by the plans, which are part of a five-year remit to close 16 of its 26 UK sites.
