Sporting stars light up Cramlington’s Christmas
Cramlington will be transformed into a festive wonderland this week as Paralympian star Stephen Miller and special guests from the Newcastle Falcons illuminate the start of Advent with the town’s Christmas Light Switch On.
The event, to be held on Thursday November 28 2013, will begin at Town Square outside Concordia Leisure Centre at 4pm as the sporting stars kick off the festive fun. Celebrations will then move into Manor Walks Shopping & Leisure for the centre’s official switch on at 5pm in Centre Mall.
The town’s Christmas festivities have been organised this year in collaboration with Manor Walks, Cramlington Town Council and Blyth Valley Arts & Leisure.
Throughout Thursday’s event families will have the chance to meet Santa and his live reindeers at their stables in Sainsbury’s car park, and start their festive feasting early with roasted chestnuts. The Woodhorn lantern parade will further light up Cramlington with an enchanting glow and choirs from Eastlea Primary School and St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Voluntary Aided First School will warm the hearts of visitors with Christmas cheer.
Northburn Primary School’s Steel Pan Band will be performing and shoppers will have the chance to meet characters from the upcoming performance of Aladdin by the Blagdon Amateur Thespian Society.
Other festive events taking place at Manor Walks this December will include a series of programmes designed to entertain and reward shoppers. Manor Walks and Digital Community Youth will present Santa’s Grotto at the Venue from Saturday December 07, while a range of the best in homemade designer, crafters and hobbyists will also gather at The Venue each Saturday in December for Christmas Fairs.
Manor Walks’ general manager, Bruno Coppola said: “This year we have another fantastic range of events at Manor Walks Shopping & Leisure to entertain and reward our shoppers who have shown great loyalty throughout the year.
“We’re very excited to share the annual Christmas Light Switch On celebrations with Cramlington Town Council and we look forward to another great turnout this year. The festive spirit will continue throughout December with our Christmas programme of events.
“Christmas is always an exciting time to visit Manor Walks as our range of offers and events are designed to make the Christmas shopping experience more enjoyable. Throughout the festive season our visitors can now shop, dine, and visit the cinema whilst benefiting from free car parking, which now has no time restrictions in the evening.”
