Royal seal of approval for Sheffield lawyers’ voluntary work at farm trust

Lawyers from hlw Keeble Hawson’s Sheffield office were among a group of volunteers at local educational charity Whirlow Hall Farm Trust presented with the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Partner Roger Dyson, head of the firm’s corporate and business team and a trustee of the farm-based charity, and solicitor Lauren Fulcher received certificates to mark the accolade from the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, David Moody, at a ceremony at The Cutlers’ Hall, Sheffield.

Together with their colleagues Rebecca Pugh, an associate at the firm, and solicitor James Alger, the lawyers are among 120 volunteers at the working farm, which provides hands-on experience for more than 10,000 visitors a year.

The four lawyers from hlw Keeble Hawson, one of Yorkshire’s largest law firms with offices in Doncaster, Leeds and Sheffield, offer legal advice and services on a voluntary basis to Whirlow Hall Farm Trust.

Lauren Fulcher, who advises the charity on employment issues, said: “The firm has been supporting the trust for 13 years and it was a real honour to receive such a significant award, the highest accolade for groups of volunteers in the UK. Whirlow Hall Farm Trust needs to raise more than £300,000 a year to operate the farm so volunteers across a range of roles are critical in driving forward this vibrant charity.”
