Michelle makes a splash with marketing career with Biochemica

Billingham based water treatment provider, Biochemica UK Ltd is once again celebrating the success of its staff after its Marketing and Business Development Officer scooped an award from the University of Sunderland.

Michelle Oliver beat off stiff competition from over 30 nominations for the university’s prestigious Intern of the Year award to take the runner up prize at the inaugural celebration event. Held at the National Glass Centre, the awards were hosted by Metro Radio’s Karen Wright and the University of Sunderland’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Julie Mennell.

Michelle started at Biochemica in November last year as part of a six month internship, organised by the University of Sunderland’s Graduate Internship Scheme. After this time, Biochemica offered Michelle a full time role at their Teesside headquarters.

Having achieved numerous accomplishments during her internship and secured a permanent position with Biochemica, Michelle was not only shortlisted within the final three for the award but invited by the Internship Team to deliver a presentation at the event on her experiences.

Michelle also sat on the panel during a Questions and Answers session to provide an intern’s perspective for over 100 guests, consisting of North East business leaders, current and former interns and university staff. She commented: “It was an honour to be part of the event and celebrate the achievements of the Graduate Internship Scheme and the interns they have placed.

“Winning the runner up prize for the Intern of the Year award was the icing on the cake and I’m grateful to Biochemica for giving me the chance to become a concrete part of their team. Without their support, I wouldn’t have had these opportunities.”

Michelle added: “I’m now looking forward to the further development of my role within the business as it continues to grow. There are certainly going to be interesting and exciting times ahead judging by the last 12 months.”
