Liverpool architects accompany Prime Minister’s China trade delegation

Prime Minister David Cameron is on a three day official visit to China, aimed at building stronger links between Britain and China, the world’s largest and fastest-growing emerging economy.

The accompanying high-level trade delegation includes Liverpool firm Brock Carmichael Architects.

The delegate programme includes a series of events in Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu that will forge opportunities for British and Chinese businesses to work together.

Michael Cosser, Partner, Brock Carmichael Architects, said: “I was in Beijing in June this year as part of a delegation of British architects led by the President of the Royal Institute of British Architects. To return with the Prime Minister’s visit raises our profile to the highest level. Such recognition will be well received by both existing and prospective mainland clients.”

“China is by far the largest of the emerging markets for new buildings, which by 2020 will account for 55% of global construction value.”

“We anticipate an increasing emphasis on the social infrastructure sector. Projects such as education, housing, community and healthcare will become an important growth area”.

“Brock Carmichael Architects’ expertise in these areas will be of real value to the Chinese. At the 10th Chinese Urban Housing Conference earlier this year my business partner, Martin Watson, became the first western architect to receive an honorary citation for his research paper on displaced communities because of its relevance to the Chinese context.”

“Liverpool is twinned with Shanghai and to be visiting the city with a business delegation led by the Prime Minister, David Cameron, will be very special. We will promote the International Festival for Business taking place in Liverpool in 2014 and inward investment opportunities such as Liverpool Waters.”

“In 2011 we won an international design competition for Ocean One, a 52-acre waterfront development at East Port in Tianjin. The project has been delayed but we hope this visit will refresh interest, encouraging it to move forward.”
