ICE North East celebrates its 100th Fellow
The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East has reached a significant membership milestone with the 100th Fellow being confirmed in the region.
Daniel House, who has more than 26 years’ experience working as a civil engineer, was confirmed as the region’s landmark Fellow, which is the highest and most senior grade of ICE membership.
Daniel, 47, who lives in Morpeth and studied Civil Engineering at Portsmouth Polytechnic, has been at professional services firm, ARUP, for the past six years working on projects worldwide, including last years’ London Olympic Games. He received the accolade at an evening with other Fellows in the North East at the Royal Station Hotel in Newcastle.
Daniel said: “I am delighted and proud to have achieved the grade of Fellow, which is beyond what I expected to achieve in my career. After working as a technician before my university studies, my ambition was always to become a chartered engineer, so I am thrilled to have surpassed this goal.
“Over my years as a civil engineer, I have gained great experience by working on some important projects both nationally and internationally. I couldn’t have asked for a better career.”
Prior to his employment with ARUP, Daniel spent seven years at Mouchel, where he was responsible for the highways in North Yorkshire, having previously worked at Northumberland County Council for 13 years.
The ICE grade of Fellow is for senior civil engineers who have made a significant contribution to the profession and are engaged in a position of responsibility in the promotion, planning, design, construction, maintenance or management of important engineering work.
Professor David Toll, Chairman of ICE North East, said: “I am delighted that the Institution of Civil Engineers North East has reached such a significant milestone and am pleased to announce Daniel as the 100th Fellow. His elevation is richly deserved, as demonstrated by his exemplary career in civil engineering working in positions of responsibility on projects of national and international significance.
“I would like to congratulate all of the Fellows in the North East who have reached this status, as it is the highest grade of ICE membership possible and something of which we can be extremely proud.”
