Carlisle hosts apprenticeship promotion

Businesses interested in taking on an apprentice are being invited to a promotional event in Carlisle next month. The drop in session, on Wednesday January 15th from 5pm-7pm in the old court room at The Courts, will allow employers to find out more about the grants and how to apply.

Cumbria County Council’s Local Committee for Carlisle has provided an additional £20,000 of funding to support employers to take on apprentices in the district.

Eligible businesses will need to bid in to the scheme, and there are a limited number of grants available. The county council is keen to hear from businesses where there are good quality, sustainable opportunities available for young people.

Councillor Cyril Weber, Chairman of Carlisle Local Committee, said: “Cumbria has a fantastic track record of developing skills through apprenticeships. They provide real, measurable business benefits for employers and give young people a chance to get started on their career in their local community.” The county council is working with Cumbria Chamber of Commerce and the National Apprenticeship Service to raise the profile of this drop-in event with businesses. Business interested in finding out more about these grants should call 01228 221158 or emailcaroline.powney@cumbria.gov.uk
