Technology Strategy Board head to share expertise at Sunderland event

The region’s business leaders and tech entrepreneurs will gain an exclusive insight into the work of the Technology Strategy Board when Chief Executive Iain Gray joins them for an event in Sunderland this week.

Business and technology services company IBM has partnered with Sunderland City Council and Sunderland Software City to host the Gateway to Opportunity event on Friday, December 13 at the Sunderland Software Centre.

The free half day event will see business owners in the region learn from leading technologists, scientists and business experts as they share their experience in the software field.

As well as an exclusive insight from Iain Gray into how the Technology Strategy Board is supporting innovation in the UK, the programme features a line-up of esteemed key note speakers including Rashik Parmar, President of the IBM Academy of Technology, serial entrepreneur Chris Mairs and UCL Professor Tim Broyd.

The event is designed to provide businesses with a unique insight into market opportunities for technology solutions and introduce technology entrepreneurs to the support available from IBM to help develop their product, service or business.

IBM has signed a contract with Sunderland Council’s multi-million pound Sunderland Software Centre to act as the building’s managed service provider (MSP), delivering business support to its tenants and providing equipment to the flagship site.

As part of this agreement IBM will run a unique programme of events which will be geared towards helping tenant companies access business opportunities and connections to potential customers, business partners and investors.

David Dunn, chief executive of Sunderland Software City said: “The Gateway to Opportunity event is the first in a series of exciting events that will bring more world-class entrepreneurs and thought leaders to Sunderland over the next few years.

“Our partnership with IBM is designed to inspire and support the growth of software businesses in the North East, helping more to become internationally successful and further strengthening the region’s reputation as an innovative hub in the global ICT landscape.”

Gateway to Opportunity takes place this Friday at the Sunderland Software Centre from 9:30-12:50, followed by an optional networking lunch. A full programme and details of how to register can be found by visiting https://ibmgateway.eventbrite.co.uk
