New Passport Office plan submitted for Durham redevelopment

A detailed planning application for a new Passport Office has been submitted by the development consortium for the Riverside Renewal Project at Freeman’s Reach in Durham City.

The consortium includes Carillion Developments, part of Carillion plc, North East property business Arlington Real Estate and Richardsons Capital LLP.

Construction of phase one for National Savings and Investments (NS&I) began in the summer.

The Passport Office has agreed terms in principle for Phase 2, subject to contract and Government approvals, and the grant of the required planning consent, to relocate to Freeman’s Reach for phase two of the project.

The relocation of both NS&I and the Passport Office to Freeman’s Reach will provide a unique opportunity to expand the regeneration of this area of the City that is known as the Northern Quarter to include Milburngate House.

It marks the first stage of a more strategic and comprehensive masterplan approach to development on the riverside under the banner of Northern Quarter to further enhance the economic, architectural and cultural standing of this great City.”
