MP impressed by new Sheffield homes

The new homes being built by Sheffield Housing Company in the city have impressed Heeley Constituency MP Meg Munn.

She visited the Cutler’s View development at Norfolk Park to see for herself the properties which are being constructed for sale and for affordable rent and said: “I was really impressed.

“The quality of the homes is fantastic; they are spacious, energy efficient and modern. Furthermore, the fact that a significant proportion of sales so far have been to first time buyers shows how affordable they are.

“I am sure they will bring together new communities with people from many different backgrounds, helping to repopulate this part of Norfolk Park with which I have great affinity as my grand parents once lived in the tower blocks which preceded the development”.

“Sheffield Housing Company is a great long term project which is committed to supporting the local community and many people moving into these properties will find that they have a home for life.”

The venture is a partnership between the city council, regeneration specialist Keepmoat – which is building the properties - and Great Places Housing Group. Over the next 15 years the aim is to develop 2,300 new homes, revitalising neighbourhoods.

Around a third of the homes being built will be for rent or shared ownership and the remainder for private sale. All will reach the Lifetime Homes standard, making adaptations easier to allow people to remain living independently for as long as possible. In addition, 15% of the properties will be completed to Mobility Standards and 10% will be fully wheelchair accessible.

Sheffield Housing Company Project Director, Tom Fenton, said: “The aim is to transform parts of the city by providing modern, sustainable and adaptable homes which local people can afford and can live in for many years. I am not aware of any other builder in the area developing to such exacting standards.

“As the project develops, we are committed to providing jobs and apprenticeships and opportunities for local companies to supply goods and services. This will support economic regeneration as well as improvements to the local environments.

“It is great that one of our local MPs is taking such an interest in how the programme is going and we were pleased to be able to show Meg just what is available.”

People have already begun to move in to homes at Cutler’s View, where 116 are being built and at Brearley Forge - named after the inventor of Stainless Steel, Harry Brearley – where 142 properties are under construction. Work has also begun on a further 47 more homes on small infill sites in Shirecliffe, while thought is now being given to the next phase of development on seven further sites around the city.
