Cut throat masterclass for TyneMet barbering students
A Former TyneMet student returned to the College to give a masterclass session to students studying on the Level 2 Barbering course.
Jayne Middleton who studied at TyneMet on Level 2 and 3 Hairdressing and Level 2 and 3 Barbering courses gave a masterclass demonstrating how to professionally shave a man’s facial hair with a cut throat razor.
During the live demonstration, Jayne, who has been into the College before to give masterclasses, introduced the students to the shaving products needed for the process and how they should be applied to the skin.
She also identified the reasons as to why hot towels are needed during the process and when they should be administered, discussed the importance of determining hair growth direction and showed the students how fix the razor blade safely to the cut throat razor, she then demonstrated how to use the razor safely but efficiently on different areas of the face.
The students were delighted to watch Jayne and asked lots of questions during the demonstration; some of the information the students gathered from the session is needed for them to complete one of their course modules, ensuring that they are gaining skills needed in the workplace.
Since leaving TyneMet, Jayne has gone on to become very successful she has now opened three thriving barbering salons, GHFM, two are in Whitley Bay and the other in North Shields.
Lesley Maughan, Hairdressing and Barbering Teacher, TyneMet College, said:
“I would like to express my gratitude to Jayne who has come in to the College on more than one occasion to give masterclass sessions like this. She always makes the sessions interesting and easy to follow giving the students a step-by-step guide on how to complete these techniques.
“Live demonstrations are invaluable to the students who need to learn specialist barbering techniques and Jane never fails to impress the students with her passion and expertise for barbering.”
Jayne said: “I am always delighted when asked to come to TyneMet to deliver a masterclass session to the students.
“I really enjoyed my time at TyneMet, my teachers were very gifted hairdressers and stylists who shared with us their experience of working in the industry.
“My demonstrations have always been well received by the students and I enjoy interacting with them in this way.”
