Quantity surveyors Cooper & Hall grows team by the power of three

A North Yorkshire quantity surveyor has swelled its ranks with the appointment of three new members of staff.

Cooper & Hall, which is based at Pannal Business Park in Harrogate, has recruited two trainee Quantity Surveyors and an office administrator to help cope with a continuing increase in business.

Trainee QS Richard Wilcock has completed a two-year foundation course and will now spend the next three years working and studying part-time at Northumbria University for a degree in quantity surveying.

Joseph Wright, who is a former student of St Aidan’s C of E School in Harrogate, completed his A-Levels this summer and will spend the next five years learning the ropes from the Cooper & Hall team whilst studying part-time for a degree.

Like Richard, his education is being funded by Cooper & Hall.

Meanwhile, Helen Porter has joined the company as the office administrator to provide assistance to the 11-strong team.

The company was started by Phil Cooper and Graham Hall in 2002 and works in both the public and private sector.

Mr Cooper said: “The last four years were incredibly tough for the construction industry, but we are now starting to see an upturn in activity.

“Thankfully, we were able to weather the storm and expand our business, and this year we have seen our workload increase significantly.

“To enable us to keep on top of it – and to tender for more business - we have taken the decision to bring on board three new team members.

“At Cooper & Hall, we believe in giving those at the start of their career an opportunity to gain both practical and theoretical experience, hence us taking on Richard and Joseph.

“The pair are incredibly motivated, industrious and eager to learn from the more experienced team members.”

Mr Cooper added: “Helen is also proving to be an invaluable member of the growing team and ensures that everything is in the right place. She has slotted in to the team very quickly.”

Cooper & Hall are currently working on a wide spectrum of projects, from a residential development in Harrogate to a variety of multi-million-pound commercial projects in Leeds, London and across the country.

The company is also acting as “expert witness” in a multinational arbitration case and continues to provide services to insolvency practitioners across the region.
