Christmas Fundraising by TyneMet Foundation Learning Department
Students studying on Foundation Learning courses at TyneMet College have been extremely entrepreneurial this month organising Christmas Fairs, Auctions, Coffee Mornings and Raffles.
The proceeds of all of these activities have amassed to an astonishing £742.54 which will be split between the charities, North East Autism Society, Down’s Syndrome North East, Teenage Cancer Trust and Coping with Cancer.
The Personal Development Opportunities students are in their second year of study at the College. At their Christmas Craft Fair, they sold a range of craft items which they had made, as well as holding a raffle, tombola and other competitions. The event was extremely well supported and in total they raised £317.96, which is being donated jointly to the North East Autism Society and Down’s Syndrome North East.
Following on from the Fair the students managed to sell the remaining items to boost their total to an amazing £340.
Students studying on the Basic Skills for Life course held a Coffee Morning and Raffle, family and friends of the students came to College and in total they successfully raised a fantastic amount of £227.95 for the charity Coping with Cancer.
Certificate in Learning Skills students held a Craft Fair and Auction, staff, students and family and friends all took part and the total raised by the students was £174.25 which will be donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust and the North East Autism Society.
Andrea Cochrane, Acting Head of Preparation for Life and Work, TyneMet College, said:
“I am delighted with the amount that the students have raised for their chosen charities, the students worked really hard and a lot of preparation was needed to organise each successful event.
“The students enjoyed themselves on the day and were thrilled with the support they received from college staff, other students and family and friends.”
