Sheffield’s President Engineering Group celebrates shortlisting in finance team of the year award

President Engineering Group Ltd, based in Sheffield, is celebrating being shortlisted for ‘Finance team of the Year’ in the national Business Finance Awards. The awards celebrate the best individuals, teams and businesses in both public and private sector organisations that have demonstrated success and innovation over the last 12 months.

Marie Cooper, financial director of PEGL, said: “We are really excited to be shortlisted for this prestigious national award, which is testament to the dynamism and professionalism of our staff. Our business has seen significant growth over the past 12 months, so our finance team has adapted by working smarter and more efficiently to cope with this increase in turnover. We were also able to show the judges how we are much more than just calculators and spreadsheets - working closely with staff in other areas of the business and spending time on the shop floor understanding what the numbers mean in reality.”

She adds: “We are keeping our fingers crossed for the final in March!”

The awards event will take place at a glittering ceremony at the Royal Garden Hotel in London on 12th March.

Judges were impressed with the way that PEGL’s finance team has dealt with major changes in the business, such as the acquisition of an additional UK company, the integration of the financials of the Indian manufacturing business of PEGL into its responsibilities and the implementation of a new MRP software package across the company.

President Engineering Group Ltd (PEGL) was established in 2010 through a management buyout from the Flow Group involving the Conflow and Bestobell Valves businesses. These were purchased by a Sheffield-based management team consisting of Mark Henley (Managing Director), Marie Cooper (Financial Director) & John Waddington (Operations Director)

This is the second financial accolade for Marie Cooper and her team, after Marie won the Young FD of the Year category in the national FD’s Excellence Awards for 2013.

Bestobell Valves is an internationally renowned manufacturer and distributor of cryogenic valves for use in the Industrial Gas and Liquefied Natural Gas Industries.

Conflow manufactures dust suppression, fire suppression, and water control equipment for mining industries, supplying mainly international markets.

The company has recently acquired Bretby Gammatech, a coal quality monitoring company which specialises in ash monitoring. Bretby Gammatech has pioneered technology to produce an innovative and safe method of measuring the ash content of coal which does not involve radiation.

Now with this latest acquisition to President Engineering’s portfolio, the group offers three dedicated market-leading brands serving the global marketplace.
