The Army reserves visit Tyne Metropolitan College

Uniformed Services students had a field day when the Army Reserves visited TyneMet College.

The Northumberland Hussars who are a British Army Reserves Squadron and are part of The Queen’s Own Yeomanry (QOY), a Formation Reconnaissance Regiment, came to TyneMet bringing with them some of their impressive armoured vehicles.

The Level 2 and 3 Uniformed and Public Services students were introduced to the benefits, the vast array of job types and career progression opportunities available to them within the Army Reserves.

They were also given access to the armoured vehicles that the Squadron brought with them and supervised by the Army Reserve soldiers the students were able to sit in the vehicles and simulate firing the on board weapon systems.

The students really enjoyed the visit and 15 actually expressed an interest in joining or finding out more about the Army Reserves.

TyneMet’s Uniformed and Public Services courses are the perfect springboard for students wanting a structured career. They are specifically designed to introduce students to the various public and uniformed organisations such as the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force as well as the Prison, Police, Fire and Ambulance Services.

Students can enrol on to a Level 2 Public and Uniformed Services course and then look at the possibility of enrolling on a Public Services (Extended Diploma) Level 3.

Joining the Army Reserves means that all training and military duties are undertaken outside of normal working hours. This makes it possible to get many of the benefits of Army life and combine them with a civilian life and career. A salary is paid for all the time spent.
