Yorkshire caravan manufacturer wins award

Leeds-based Zone Leisure is celebrating after beating off competition to take home gold at the Lightweight Leisure Trailer Awards, run by the Caravan Club.

Zone Leisure’s Zone caravan, designed by managing director Chris Vaudin, was named top of the caravans in the ‘Teardrop-style’ category.

The judges said: “What the Zone lacks in size, it more than makes up for in luxury and innovation.

“It’s best described as a ‘bed in a box’ with all mod cons, but it’s the storage solutions that really wowed the judges. One of the under floor storage compartments even has a drain to allow wet clothes to be stored and/or dried – brilliant.”

More than 40 vehicles were submitted to the Caravan Club Lightweight Leisure Trailer Awards, which provide objective assessments of caravans on the market.

The panel of independent judges follow rigorous scoring checklists and assess everything from sitting comfort, kitchen design and standing headroom to storage, wiring and security.

Further scrutiny awarded the Zone merit for ease of set up, together with sleeping and living accommodation.

Chairman of The Caravan Club Grenville Chamberlain, who announced the results, added: “These awards continue to go from strength-to-strength and the high standards of the entries meant that they were fiercely fought.

“The fantastic summer of 2013 has put touring on the agenda for many for the first time, and the industry is reporting sales to match this trend.”
