Triathlon Championship returns to Liverpool
The British Triathlon Championships Liverpool will return to the triathlon calendar on 10 August 2014.
Entries will open in the New Year to what organisers British Triathlon and Upsolut Sports believe will be one of the highlights of the 2014 season.
The event aims to build upon the successful inaugural race held in 2013, where over 1,500 athletes competed on a course that took in some of Liverpool’s most iconic sights including the Albert Dock, Echo Arena and the Liver Building.
The standard distance race, which will once again be the British Standard Distance Triathlon Championships, expects to draw many of Britain’s top age-group athletes to Liverpool as they compete for coveted British titles, and places on the Great Britain Age-Group Team that will compete at the 2015 ETU Triathlon European Championships.
The event will also host the British Elite Championships for youth, junior and senior triathletes alongside the British Paratriathlon Championships, which will welcome many of Britain’s World Champion paratriathletes to Liverpool as the sport continues its journey to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
Jon Ridgeon, British Triathlon Director for Major and National Events said: “The British Triathlon Championships Liverpool are set to deliver world-class racing once again in the heart of Liverpool City Centre.
“This event has something for everyone, whether you are a newcomer to the sport or an aspirant member of the Great Britain Age-Group Team. We look forward to returning to such an iconic location and hope to inspire the city to take up the triathlon challenge.”
Liverpool City Council’s cabinet member for culture and tourism, Councillor Wendy Simon, said: “It’s fantastic news that this sporting event is returning to the city again in 2014.
“This year it was one of the highlights of our sporting calendar and it was wonderful to see so many participants of all abilities compete on our World Heritage Waterfront.
“I’m sure the 2014 event will be even more popular and we look forward to welcoming a new batch of competitors to take on the Liverpool challenge.”
