Ice cream producers look for partner in ‘grown your own’ project

A Yorkshire ice cream producer is looking for a partner to help run a community ‘grow your own’ project on its south Huddersfield farm.

Yummy Yorkshire, based between Huddersfield and Penistone, West Yorkshire, has a vacant 5 metre x 10 metre square plot of land available which it hopes to nurture and turn into a vegetable patch with the help of nearby garden growers.

The plot of land used to be a lawn but has been left to pasture for the past five years so is ideally placed to develop into a vegetable patch. It also has a natural rhubarb patch in one corner and has its own access from the farmyard.

Jeremy Holmes who owns Delph House Farm and founded Yummy Yorkshire Ice Cream with his wife Louise six years ago is keen to use the land to reconnect with food and the community but due to his commitments running the dairy business and Yummy Yorkshire, he is unable to take on the project himself.

He says: “We’d love to find a local garden grower to take on this plot and turn it around. Someone knowledgeable about growing fresh produce who would be interested in running it as a profit-share scheme with us.

“We’d provide the land for free and sell whatever is grown in the farm and coffee shop with all profit split equally. We’d love to grow seasonal vegetables and potatoes, broccoli, carrots in particular as there is an ongoing demand for these types of veg.

“With the desire to grow your own at an all-time high, but with lengthy (or closed) allotment waiting lists in many areas, we hope that any amateur gardeners with a bit of entrepreneurial spirit will be interested in this opportunity.”

Anyone interested in the project should email Jeremy on indulge@yummyyorkshire.co.uk or call 01226 762551.
