Pertemps Network – Keeping it in the Family

Family values have been ever-present throughout the fifty-three year history of Pertemps, the UK’s leading privately-owned recruitment agency, a philosophy which underpins the company’s latest partnership deal that sees it extend its support of other family-owned enterprises across the UK.

The Meriden-headquartered recruiter, part of the Pertemps Network Group, has become a National Partner of Families in Business (FiB), the independent go-to support organisation for the UK’s three million family businesses.

Pertemps was established in 1961 and now has over 100 branches operating across a multitude of sectors and supplying diverse roles. The company also specialises in business process outsourcing delivered through a range of solutions. It is part of the Pertemps Network Group (PNG) which has a £500m turnover and offers expertise across specialist sectors including IT, healthcare, legal, education and construction.

Dani Saveker (pictured), CEO and founder of FiB explains: “Our recent survey of UK family businesses revealed that twenty-one percent want to recruit expertise from outside of the family, on a full or part time basis. Family businesses are the bedrock of the UK economy and finding skills to sustain this sector is of paramount importance. Through our National Partner network that now includes Pertemps, FiB is strongly positioned to support the desire amongst family businesses to strengthen the skills within their operation, by offering an alternative and flexible solution to the way in which they bring in talent to the business, whilst protecting the family’s core values and integrity.”

She adds: “From the minute I met Tim Watts we clearly shared similar stories as well as the same passion, values and frustrations that go hand-in-hand with being part of a family business. Our backgrounds are very similar in that we were each thrown into our family’s businesses without any real plan. To have such a highly successful and driven family business such as Pertemps within the FiB community is tremendous and we’re delighted to raise the issue of skills and talent with the company’s support.”

Pertemps retains the same, strong family values today as it did back in 1961 when the company was founded by Constance Watts, initially in a rented office in Temple Street, Birmingham. Her son, Tim, offered to help run a second office in Wolverhampton in 1970 and went on to grow the business into the £500m enterprise that it is today. Today, Mr Watts still has an influential role within the business as Lifetime President.

Tim Watts said: “Pertemps started off life as a one-off family run firm and still retains strong family values to this day– this is what sets us apart from our competitors. We have always remained committed to our employees, our applicants and our clients.

“I am a supporter of family-run companies and with more than fifty years of experience, I am confident that our business will be able to share a great deal of experience and knowledge that will ensure others can become as successful as we have in years to come.”

FiB works exclusively with family businesses and professional advisers throughout the UK providing relevant support, advice, membership and guidance to family-run businesses and SMEs. Via its growing community, FiB is regarded as a go-to organisation focused on providing help and support to family businesses. Created by its CEO Dani Saveker, it provides tailored support packages to family businesses as well as a cost effective membership, local and national events. FiB is an approved Growth Accelerator Training Provider and its ‘Introduction Workshop: Working with family businesses’ is certified by the CPD certification service.

Representatives from PNG will attend FiB events and conferences and also provide advice whenever required to SME family-owned businesses.
