Scenic location at Ridley Hall remains unspoilt after package sewage treatment plant installation

Civil Engineering Contractors, BCE Northern, have recently subcontracted Conder Aqua Solutions to provide an upgrade solution of an old sewerage works on the prestigious conference, wedding and activity holiday venue, Ridley Hall.

Ridley Hall, based in Northumberland, is a country house set on a scenic 33 acre estate comprised of woodland, playing fields and lawned gardens. The Hall, which was built in 1793, required a treatment solution that would cater for the 65 boarding residents and day visitors with relatively tight discharge consent.

The Conder SAF125N5 package sewage treatment plant was selected as a proven solution to achieve the tight discharge standard required by the E.A permit. The system also provided a compact, yet highly efficient, system that would fit the limited space available with a minimal visual impact on the picturesque scenery of this location. The system was installed by local installation and service provider, RA Dalton.

Due to the tight discharge requirements and limited space for installation, the scheme at Ridley Hall was a particularly testing application. Speaking about the issues faced Ian Murray, Technical Sales Manager at Conder Aqua Solutions said: “Through the selection of the proven high rate Nitrification SAF system we were able to overcome both of the major issues we faced in this installation.

“Firstly the system provides a proven process to guarantee that the final effluent levels were consistently achieved. Also, the two tank SAF process allows a degree of flexibility when faced with constrains on location and available footprint. The primary settlement tank and biozone/humus settlement tanks were installed at an angle to each other to best utilise the available space and achieve the aesthetic challenges with a completely buried system, apart from the blower kiosk.

“The agreed SAF plant selection and installation ticked all of the boxes and proved to be a challenging but highly rewarding scheme”.
