Owners prosecuted for poor food hygeine and safety at North West takeaway
An Oldham food business has faced court action for food safety offences after poor standards were found during routine food hygiene inspections by Oldham Council’s Environmental Health Team.
The owners of the hot food takeaway UK Fried Chicken were successfully prosecuted by Oldham Council under the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006 at Oldham Magistrates Court on Wednesday, January 15.
A mouse infestation was found by an officer throughout UK Fried Chicken, on Union Street, Oldham – during an inspection on July 19, 2013.
Mouse droppings were found on dish cloths, work surfaces and shelving throughout the premises.
There was no soap or hand drying facilities at the wash hand basin in connection with the toilet.
The owners, Ghulam Haider Raja, 34 and Nigat Shaheen, 31 of Sycamore Close Bradford, pleaded guilty to five food safety offences. The court ordered each to pay a £1,500 fine and costs of £1,550 were awarded to the council.
Councillor Jean Stretton, cCabinet Member for Co-operatives and Neighbourhoods, said: “Oldham Council takes matters like this very seriously and we are committed to ensuring there are no serious lapses in food hygiene in premises across the borough.
“Business owners who run food establishments must comply with the law or be prepared to face the consequences as we will not hesitate to take action in cases like these to protect the health and safety of residents.”
