TyneMet Sport students travel to Edinburgh for careers advice
A group of 15 Sport students travelled to Edinburgh to the National Sports Roadshow - an event which is the ultimate destination for enthusiasts, who want to live, work and play sport.
The Roadshow was the perfect platform for employers, trainers, students and professionals to meet and interact. The students were able to speak to a variety of exhibitors at the event and receive good advice regarding career opportunities available to them in the varied and exciting range of sports industries.
Many of the top sporting universities were on hand at the event giving the students an insight into the broad range of sporting degree courses that are on offer. Other exhibiters at the event included the British Association of Sort and Exercise Science, Sky Sports, Camp America, Fit for Sport, PE Recruitment, Sports Leaders and some premiership football clubs.
The students were thrilled to attend a seminar delivered by Gavin Hastings, the ex-British Lions and Scotland rugby player, and other workshop sessions presented by internationally renowned sports coaches and lecturers.
The students also had great fun taking part in some practical workshops and learning new activities such as Bokwa® which is a new and completely different approach to group exercise that is rapidly spreading across the globe. Participants draw letters and numbers with their feet while performing an energizing and addictive cardio workout routine.
Feedback from the students was very positive, some said that they had not realised how many areas that the sporting industry actually covered and that they were now more excited than ever because of the many different types of opportunities available to them.
Warick Stephenson, Head of Care, Sport and Leisure at TyneMet College said:
“Events such as this are invaluable to our students. The students gain an exciting insight into the world of sporting qualifications and career opportunities.
“Students particularly enjoyed the practical workshops from which they always learn new skills and they also enjoyed attending the seminars given by inspirational and motivational sporting legends.”
