Newcastle College hosts tech futures event
On Wednesday 29 January 2014 Newcastle College is hosting employers from across the region’s digital and ICT sector to debate and discuss the skills and recruitment issues faced by the UK tech sector.
“We live and do business in an increasingly digital world and businesses will struggle to flourish and compete in a global market if the education system cannot produce people with business-ready ICT skills“.
David Roberts, Executive Director of the Corporate IT Forum
At 20/20: A Digital Vision, delegates will participate in an open forum featuring a panel of employers, influencers and educators from across the digital sector including Herb Kim, former CEO of Codeworks and founder of Thinking Digital, Wyndham Lewis, Executive Director of the British Interactive Media Association (BIMA) and Bob Paton, Managing Director at global management-consulting, technology services and outsourcing giant, Accenture.
The free event takes place at Newcastle College’s Digital Skills Academy, a new school created in response to demand from employers for trained and qualified staff to work in the growing ICT sector.
Geoff O’Neil, Director of the new Academy, said, “We are delighted to be launching the Digital Skills Academy at our fantastic new Sandyford base. The facilities and programmes of study on offer here will form an integral part of our vision to become the preferred provider of the IT professional workforce for the north east.
We’re looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming the sector in to meet the next generation of programmers, creatives and developers training to become the ICT workforce of the future and to see for themselves the fantastic facilities we offer.“

20/20: A Digital Vision runs from 4pm – 6pm on 29 Jan 2014 at the Newcastle College Sandyford Building NE1 8QE.
