PCS goes green with Denmark’s largest retailer
Card manufacturer, Plastic Card Services (PCS), has picked up a new contract with Denmark’s largest retailer, Coop Danmark, thanks to its industry-leading environmental credentials.
The contract will see the Macclesfield-based company supply loyalty cards for Coop Danmark, which has over 1,200 outlets and is Denmark’s most popular loyalty card scheme, with over 1.7 million active members.
In this latest contract win with the Danish retailer, PCS is producing a brand new card and fob design engineered for faster lead times to meet increased customer demand. This new contract follows Coop Danmark’s first order with the company in 2010.
Coop Danmark selected PCS due to its ability to meet its environmentally-conscious brief, which included an ecological materials requirement. Following extensive research and testing, PCS developed a sustainable bio-PVC card for Coop Danmark, which has advanced biodegradable properties when composted.
Further enhancing its environmental credentials, the card is also manufactured using a waterless print process, significantly reducing emissions and potentially harmful compounds.
Adam Unsworth, sales director at PCS explains: “As an ethical retailer, Coop Danmark is committed to raising the bar in terms of sustainability in the retail sector and has a strict environmental policy. When sourcing the cards and fobs for its loyalty scheme, the team wanted a product that outperformed the traditional PVC offering.
“The first bio-PVC card was a great success and we are pleased to help launch the newest range. The latest cards have a fresh design and reduced lead times while continuing to be manufactured with the highest levels of environmental care.”
Birgit Schwarz Poulsen, Manager of Membership Relations at Coop Danmark, said: “Since bringing PCS on board, we have been impressed with the high quality of the product, as well as the level of service we’ve received. Our scheme is going from strength to strength and it’s great to be able to offer our customers a loyalty card that delivers in terms of rewards and sustainability.”
This contract is the latest development in PCS’ export successes, with the company growing its sales to overseas markets to over 10 per cent of annual turnover in the past 12 months. PCS’ sustainable offering has proved particularly popular in Scandinavia where many companies lead global environmental standards and seek suppliers that can comply with these.
