Consett popcorn company scoop venture capital
A husband and wife team who started their gourmet popcorn brand from their Consett kitchen table have closed a funding deal with North East venture capitalists, Rivers Capital Partners.
Corn Again was started by Richard and Catherine Furze four years ago as one of the first independent popcorn manufacturers in the country.
The industry has grown significantly in the last year as sales climbed by 300% and Corn Again’s unusual flavours, such as Hot Chilli and Fennel and Garlic and Herb, piqued Rivers Capital’s interest.
An undisclosed sum will help the business grow as Richard and Catherine hope to extend their market share.
Nikita Bazko of Rivers Capital said Catherine and Richard “have the energy, dedication anddrive to be successful business owners, and have invested considerable effort into this business over the past four years.”
The deal was advised by Newcastle law firm Ward Hadaway and corporate finance partner Imogen Holland said: “We were delighted to help the team at Rivers Capital to completethis investment in a company with a clear vision for its future and a real drive to grow its business.”
