BIM Campus opens again to North East youngsters

A purpose-built Building Information Modelling (BIM) training suite in Newcastle is opening its doors once again to the region’s young people to help upskill the construction industry’s next generation.

CAMPUS, a first of its kind partnership between the UK’s leading BIM consultancy BIM.Technologies and Northern Construction Training, provides free 12-week BIM courses to 19 to 24-year-olds who are not in education, employment or training (NEET).

Following the completion of two successful rounds, CAMPUS is due to begin its next course at the start of February and is actively looking for applicants to take up the final remaining places.

CAMPUS has achieved a high employment rate for learners which saw 13 out of 15 from the first cohort secure industry roles on completion of their course, and some have already been employed from the second cohort which is still in its last week.

BIM.Technologies Education Leader Peter James Morton said: “The upcoming course has been hotly anticipated with many more enquiries coming in than we’d previously experienced. We also recently held our second open evening to invite prospective learners and employers to find out more about CAMPUS and the turnout was fantastic.

“Our offer is certainly becoming more widely understood – we’ve seen three friends relocate together from Sheffield for just 12 weeks, specifically to attend the second course, and we’re looking forward to welcoming seven students from Ulster in the summer.

“It’s an exciting time to be part of the BIM landscape as the government’s 2016 BIM mandate approaches and technology is constantly advancing. With each new set of learners, our recognition as a training centre producing talented young professionals that integrate into a workplace, adding instant value to employers is building.”

The course runs from 3 February 2014 to 25 April 2014 at Spaceworks in Newcastle upon Tyne, and takes place 9.00am - 4.00pm, Monday to Friday. For more information or to find out how to enrol, visitwww.BIMcampus.co.uk or follow @campusBIM on Twitter.
