Sunderland software firm to create 150 jobs
One of the North East’s most successful software companies has announced plans to take on 150 new staff as it continues to attract more big-brand clients.
Sunderland-based SaleCycle helps retailers recover lost sales from online shopping carts from customers who don’t complete purchases by contacting them through email and on-site messages.
Since setting up in 2010, the Rainton Bridge Business Park based company has seen staff numbers rise from 10 in 2011 to 50 in 2013 as it expands to meet demand for its services from customers including Sony, Ralph Lauren, The Body Shop, Hertz and Lacoste.
The company, which also has offices in London, Singapore and the US, has recently launched a new service that sends customers who abandon their shopping cart while they are still on the website an instant message, helping some of their retail clients to double their online sales.
With global online sales set to top £1.4 trillion this year and over 68% of would-be online sales not completed, the company has seen demand for their services rocket and the 150 new roles will boost numbers in the company’s headquartered sales, technology and client services teams, as well as increase the number of international sales positions.
With few enterprise level competitors operating in the shopping-cart abandonment market, SaleCycle CEO Dominic Edmunds is confident the company will continue to expand its global operations from its North East headquarters.
Dominic said: “We’re very proud of our achievements to date however we have a huge growth opportunity ahead of us as we look to increase our annual turnover to more than $15m in the next financial year.”
The jobs will be recruited over the next 18 months, with at least 45 expected to be recruited in the North East this year. The roles will range from entry level positions up to senior managerial positions and the company is working with the region’s universities to ensure graduates are aware of employment opportunities at the company.
Rachel Cook, SaleCycle Internal Recruitment Officer, credits the company’s success to its North East workforce.
Rachel said: “We’re proud of our North East roots and make an effort to recruit people from the local talent pool. We are not just looking to appoint people who capably demonstrate the skills we require to run our business, but those who also demonstrate SaleCycle’s mantra to ‘be the best you can be’.
“I spend a great deal of time speaking with talented individuals across the region and I’m reminded that what we’ve achieved here at SaleCycle, and what we’re yet to achieve, is testament to just what the North East is capable of.”
